Character Designer of Saint Seiya and Yu-Gi-Oh! Passes Away.

Famed animator and graphic designer, Shingo Araki, passed away in a Tokyo hospital on December 1 at 1:21 a.m. due to acute heart failure. He was 72 years old. Araki was well-known for his character designs for famous anime shows like Saint Seiya, Cutey Honey and Yu-Gi-Oh. He also worked on American animation productions like Inspector Gadget and GI Joe: The Movie. Araki entered Mushi Production in 1964 and established Gekiga art style, a more mature art style that’s not part of the mainstream manga industry led by legendary manga artist Osamu Tezuka. This style gave birth to modern seinen and underground publications.
